POLICE ARREST SUSPECTS IN AN BUSINESS ROBBERY AND MURDER CASE.

On Saturday 2009-10-17 at about 10:00, Mr Mohammed Ismael Dajee (60) was shot dead during an armed robbery. It is alleged that six suspects robbed a clothing shop called City Hall Outfitters at Mc Intyre street in Jeppestown. Two employees and 4 customers were inside when suddenly two men carrying firearms stormed in and one of them jumped over the counter. The other one ordered everybody to lie on the floor. Two other suspects were standing at the door. The suspects took clothes and shoes from the shelves and packed them into bags. The employees and customers were searched and money and 2 cell phones were taken. One of the suspects opened a teller and took an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects then left the shop and came across the deceased who was coming from other shop next door. One of the suspects shot Mr Dajee twice in the upper body. Mr Dajee's son, 35, was also shot in the right leg as he came out from his surgery opposite the shop when he heard gunshots. The suspects fled the scene in a white Quantum and a blue BMW. Mr Dajee died on the street and his son was taken to hospital for treatment. Two empty catrigdes were found on the scene. Information was received about the registration number of the Quantum that was used during the robbery. A task team comprising of senior officers and police officers from Provincial office, Hillbrow cluster Trio Task Team, Johannesburg Cluster Trio Task Team and SAPS Jeppe was formed to investigate the matter. On 2009-10-18 at about 20:00 the task team located the Quantum in Soweto. A 27 year old man who allegedly drove the vehicle during the robbery was arrested. Three more suspects age 27, 32 and 33 were later arrested also in Soweto. The alleged used vehicle and three cell phones were seized. The suspects appeared today in Johannesburg high court. On 2009-10-13 at about 08:50, a 48 year old woman was shot dead during an armed robbery in City and Suburban in Jeppestown. It is alleged that Setjie Sanna Mamolefadi was at work at Lothlorain waste recycling with a male colleague busy cleaning before opening for the customers who were waiting outside. Suddenly a man carrying a firearm stormed in and ordered them to lie on the floor. He then asked them where they put the money but before they could answer him two more men also carrying firearms came in pushing the customers who were standing outside to go in as well. The three of them instructed everyone to lie down. The suspects demanded money which the deceased pointed a bag which they took along with her hand bag and a cell phone the colleague. One of the suspects fired two shots, hitting Momolefadi in the right side of the chest and under the left armpit. The suspects then ran away and got into a white Opel Kadett and fled with an unknown amount of cash. One 9 mm catrigde was found on the scene. Mamolefadi was certified dead on the scene. The get away car was later spotted at Jeppe hostel which led to Jeppe, Hillbrow and Johannesburg Central SAPS together with Metro police mobilising about 300 officers and raided the hostel. Residents were searched and fingerprints were checked on morpho-touch fingerprint devices which is used to identified wanted criminals. Eleven firearms, 30 kg of dagga, cell phones, computers and other dangerous weapons such as axe, pangas and assegais were confiscated. Rooms were searched and with the help of the Red Ants 4 fridges and liquor were confiscated from the people selling without liquor licences. All firearms will be taken for ballistic testing. Those that are licenced and found to be clean will be returned to their rightful owners. Four people age 26,27,29 and 42 were arrested for possession of unlicenced firearms. Two people were injured and taken to hospital after they were shot by police with rubber bullets when they dispersed the hostel dwellers who were not cooperating. Police are still hunting for the three suspects in connection with the armed robbery and murder of Mamolefadi. The SAPS Jeppe police have arrested twelve suspect between the 9 and 10 of October for crimes ranging from robbery to possession of unlicenced firearms. On Saturday 10 October 2009, a 25 year old man was robbed with a firearm at Cnr Fawcus and Boom streets in Jeppestown. It is alleged that the victim walking with his girlfriend at about 19:00 when they were approached by three unknown men. One of the men took out a firearm and pointed at them and demanded money and cell phones. The complainant gave them the money and a cell phone. He later saw the police who were patrolling around and stopped them. One suspect age 18 was arrested. Four suspects were arrested on Friday for Common Robbery in Jeppestown. It is alleged that a 26 years old woman was at her residential place at corner Fox and th th Auret standing with a friend at about 21:45, when they were approached by four unknown men. The men asked the complainant her cell phone which she refused and ran inside the house. One of the suspects chased her and managed to catch up with her and took her cell phone. The suspects then fled on foot. The complainant's friend stopped the police who were passing by and pointed them the suspects who were running away. The police managed to arrest all the four suspects age17, 2x24 and 27. A 36 year old man was arrested for Assault GBH at George Goch railway station. It is alleged that a 25 year old man was at the station when he was approached by a group of people. One of them assaulted him with a knobkerrie. The complainant's brother came at the scene and called the police who quickly responded. On their arrival the complainant gave them the description of the man who assaulted him. The police later spotted him and arrested him. A 25 year old man was arrested on Saturday at about 08:00 at Cnr Scott and Priscilla streets in Jeppestown. It is alleged that the suspect and another man assaulted a 25 year old man accusing him of stealing their money and cell phone. A neighbour who saw the assault called the police and the suspect was arrested. The other suspect is still at large. On Sunday at about 15:00, three suspects were arrested for Assault GBH and Common robbery. It is alleged that a 24 year old man was selling his goods at Doornfontein railway station in New Doornfontein when he was approached by five unknown men with one of them carrying a knobkerrie. The men took two boxes of Courtleigh and one of Stuyvesant cigarettes. When the complainant asked them why they were taking his goods, he was told that it is because he is a Shangaan and he is not allowed to do business in Johannesburg. The suspect who was carrying a knobkerrie started to assault him. He sustained injuries on the left hand. The police were called and arrested three suspects age 24, 26 and 30. On Friday, a 25 years old man was arrested for smash and grab(Theft out of motor vehicle). It is alleged that a 47 year old woman was driving at Cnr Ruven and Benrose roads at about 12:00. She was about to off ramp when she was approached by an unknown man who hit her car's window with an unknown object and took her bag with good worth R 4000 inside. The police were just few metre away from the scene and gave chase to the suspect . They managed to arrest him and he was detained at the police station. Police arrested three suspects for possession of unlicenced firearms in two separate incidents. On Saturday, the police were busy raiding buildings at about 21:30 when they were busy in a flat at Cnr Betty and Main streets. They came across an old mattress lying on the floor and when they moved it, they found two firearms. The asked the lady who was inside the flat with other people and she pointed her boyfriend and told them that the firearms belong to him. The boyfriend tried to run way but the police caught him and arrested him with his girlfriend for possession of unlicenced firearms. The suspect, 28 and his girlfriend, 29 were detained at the police station. A 25 years old man was also arrested for Possession of unlicenced firearm on Saturday at about 22:30 at Cnr Berea road and Albert street in Jeppestown. It is alleged that the police were on duty doing stop and search . The stop a car and when they search the driver they found a firearm and when they asked him about the licence he could not give them an answer. They then arrested him and detained him. All the suspect will appeared in court on Monday and their cases were postponed to next week for bail application. The police investigations are still continuing.
